MiCardiApp

mICardiApp is a mobile health, education, awareness, and self-management application compatible with Android, aimed at improving health literacy and self-management in patients with multiple pathologies with heart failure. It was developed based on the results obtained from the research project "Development and effectiveness of an mHealth intervention in improving health literacy and self-management in patients with multiple pathologies with heart failure," funded by the Own Plan of the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation of Cádiz (INiBICA).

The objective of mICardiApp is to offer support to patients with heart failure and certain complexities in their care, enabling patient empowerment, changing their behaviors and/or habits, facilitating the control and management of their disease, and ultimately improving their health. This justification underpins the application for the mICardiApp to access users' blood pressure, heart rate, and step count data through the Health Connect API. The app is specifically designed as a self-monitoring and support tool for patients diagnosed with heart failure (HF).

Access to these three health metrics is essential to deliver the app's core functionality: providing patients with detailed tracking of their key vital signs, identifying early signs of decompensation, and encouraging adherence to recommended physical activity guidelines, all with the goal of improving their quality of life and reducing hospitalizations. The application is implemented in strict compliance with Google's Health Connect policies, ensuring a clear purpose, direct benefit to the user, and the principle of least privilege.
