Obtaining data on jellyfish sightings and stings is crucial for various scientific research projects.

And having a small tool that anyone can install on their mobile phone, which simplifies the task of reporting jellyfish sightings or their effects on people, is exactly what was needed to provide science with this data.

Furthermore, the information flows both ways, as the data provided by the public travels back to science to alert and better understand the movements of each species over time and across the map.

Simply take a photo of the jellyfish with Medusapp, and when you send it, you'll also be sending the GPS coordinates to create a real-time map of the locations where these marine animals are sighted. If you also know the species, even better. But if not, don't worry, AI and a committee of experts will take care of classifying it.

This app can also be used to report other types of marine wildlife sightings, as well as the effects of jellyfish stings.

In addition, it includes a short first aid guide for jellyfish stings and another for identifying different jellyfish species.

Developed by Ramón Palacios and Eduardo Blasco as a contribution to citizen science.

Photos of jellyfish sightings that are validated will be made public on the map, while photos of stings will not.
