Arts and Culture in the 2013 Curriculum is formulated to include at the same time the study of cultural arts works to hone knowledge competencies, both of the works and the values ​​contained therein, the practice of creating cultural arts to hone skill competencies, and the formation of an attitude of appreciation for arts and culture as the final result of study and practice of cultural arts works.

The learning is designed to be activity-based in a number of arts and culture domains, namely fine arts, dance, music and theater based on art themes which are the nation's cultural heritage. Apart from that, it also includes the study of cultural heritage which is not in the form of cultural arts practices. These activities are not only related to the study and practice of cultural arts works, but also through the active involvement of each student in cultural arts activities organized by the class or school. As a subject that contains elements of local content, additional material extracted from local and relevant wisdom is highly expected to be added to enrich this book.

In accordance with the 2013 Curriculum concept, this book was prepared with reference to the learning of Arts and Culture in an integrated and complete manner. This integration and wholeness is realized in every knowledge taught, learning must continue until students are skilled in presenting the knowledge they have mastered concretely and abstractly in the form of or related to cultural works of art, and behave as human beings with a high sense of appreciation for heritage works of art. culture and other forms of cultural heritage.

This book describes the minimum effort that students must make to achieve the expected competencies. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are invited to dare to look for other learning resources that are available and spread widely around them. The teacher's role in increasing and adapting students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book is very important. Teachers can enrich it with creations in the form of other appropriate and relevant activities originating from the social and natural environment.
