Rally del Ciocco, 2014. I'm competing.
I arrive from a downhill stretch at around 150/160 km/h. My co-pilot, Anna, reads: “300 meters of reach: attention right three dangerous for left hairpin”. I get to fifth gear quickly, brake hard because the co-pilot is there to remind me. I do the right three well in third gear, I apply the handbrake in the left hairpin in a “rally sweep” and I go away safe and precise.
THE REFLECTION:
Every time I pass by, I see that Guard Rail on “right three” which is always marked by accidents of drivers who get caught out by their lack of knowledge of the road, and I say to myself: “Ah, if they had had a co-pilot…”
And here's the idea!
I get support from a team of IT experts and in the development of artificial intelligence algorithms and I use my experience to transfer it to a digital solution, available to everyone!
I, a professional rally driver, use a co-pilot because I want to go fast, but an "automatic co-pilot" can be used in ALL vehicles, for more valid reasons such as: safety, to drive better, to consume less... Because "knowing means face the road better."
CoDrive is born!
-Paolo Andreucci-
The idea behind the CoDrive algorithm was born in the world of rally racing, where the "navigator" (or "co-driver") helps the driver in two phases:
– first (the day before the race) taking notes (we call them “notes”) on all the curves of the track
– then, during the race, using those notes to give precise real-time instructions on how to tackle each stretch.
CoDrive replicates all this in a digital way, acting as an intelligent driving assistant capable of automatically creating these "notes", so as to communicate in advance, as each curve approaches, its category, which identifies its characteristics, including the level of difficulty, thus helping the driver to use the right steering angle, the level of braking and the moment to accelerate, to deal with it in the best possible way.
Codrive incorporates three different patented algorithms developed in collaboration with the Perceptive Robotics laboratory of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, absolutely unique in the sector and already tested on over 500,000 km worldwide by the award-winning Italian rally champion Paolo Andreucci
First Algorithm
The core of CoDrive: the automatic calculation of "notes"
The "core" algorithm, patented in 2021, is able to break down each route and categorize each curve automatically, according to a complex system of characteristics carefully identified thanks to the great experience of the rally champion Paolo Andreucci who, together with a team software expert, he has digitally encoded all his knowledge.
Second Algorithm
Notification of alerts
While driving, the "notes" on the upcoming curves are communicated to the driver with the right anticipation so that he can prepare to face them in the best possible way.
Parameters detected in real time such as driving speed and acceleration are constantly compared with the predicted values (the right range of predicted values) for that particular curve, with an immediate warning sound in case of excessive differences.
Third Algorithm
Driving behavior analysis
Once the journey is finished, the driving style classification algorithm assigns a "score" to the performance just performed, taking into account how well or poorly the various curves were tackled. The "journey replay" option allows the driver to review their journey and the performance of the route they have just taken, giving them the opportunity to see where errors have been made and thus allowing them to understand how to improve their driving style.
