Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Bani

ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਜਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ, ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਹੈ। ਇਹ 1469 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 1708 ਤੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਰਚੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ 1430 ਅੰਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸਤਾਰਮਈ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਭਾਵ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਬਾਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ (1666-1708) ਨੇ ਜੋਤੀ-ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਉਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕੋ-ਇੱਕ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੂਪੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ-ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਬਾਰ ਹੈ। ਅਰਦਾਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਤ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਰਗ-ਦਰਸ਼ਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਧੁਰਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸੰਕਲਨ ਪੰਜਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ (1563-1606) ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪੰਜ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਹਾਨ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ, ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਲਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਸਤਾ ਸੀ, ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਹਥੋਂ ਲਿਖਵਾਇਆ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ ਸਾਬੋ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। [2] ਦਸਮ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਜੋਤੀ-ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਉਣ ਮਗਰੋਂਬਾਬਾ ਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਤਾਰੇ ਵੰਡੇ ਗਏ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਪ-ਬੋਲੀਆਂ– ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਬ੍ਰਜ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਖੜ੍ਹੀ ਬੋਲੀ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ – ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Guru Granth Sahib (Punjabi (Gurmukhi): (Gurū Gra°th Sāhib Jī), Punjabi pronunciation: [ɡʊɾu ɡɾəntʰ sɑhɪb], /ˈɡʊəruː ɡrʌnt səˈhɪb/) is the central religious scripture of Sikhism, regarded by Sikhs as the final, sovereign and eternal living Guru following the lineage of the ten human Gurus of the religion, of whom six contributed the bulk. The Adi Granth, the first rendition, was compiled by the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan (1563–1606). Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, did not add any of his own hymns; however, he added all 115 hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, to the Adi Granth and affirmed the text as his successor. This second rendition became known as Guru Granth Sahib. After Guru Gobind Singh died, Baba Deep Singh and Bhai Mani Singh prepared many copies of the work for distribution.

The text consists of 1430 angs (pages) and 6,000 śabads (line compositions), which are poetically rendered and set to a rhythmic ancient north Indian classical form of music. The bulk of the scripture is divided into thirty-one rāgas, with each Granth rāga subdivided according to length and author. The hymns in the scripture are arranged primarily by the rāgas in which they are read. The Guru Granth Sahib is written in the Gurmukhī script, in various languages, including Lahnda (Western Punjabi), Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Sanskrit, Sindhi, and Persian. Copies in these languages often have the generic title of Sant Bhasha.

Guru Granth Sahib was composed predominantly by six Sikh Gurus: Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan, and Guru Teg Bahadur. It also contains the traditions and teachings of fourteen Hindu Bhakti movement sants (saints), such as Ramananda, Kabir and Namdev among others, and one Muslim Sufi saint: Sheikh Farid.

The vision in the Guru Granth Sahib is of a society based on divine justice without oppression of any kind. While the Granth acknowledges and respects the scriptures of Hinduism and Islam, it does not imply a moral reconciliation with either of these religions. It is installed in a Sikh gurdwara (temple); all Sikhs bow or prostrate before it on entering such a temple. The Granth is revered as eternal gurbānī and the spiritual authority in Sikhism.
